What I Learned From Movie Date Night

Movie date night is an early Tuesday evening (cheap ticket and Coke zero prices) escape with Paulette. Sit back, relax and be entertained by a movie.

This 47 second clip from “We Bought a Zoo” was a highlight for me from a recent movie date night.

I didn’t know I would walk out with a good piece of self-talk to help me when self-doubt creeps into my head.  “Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage” is good advice. Don’t let your mind talk you out of taking action with all the what-ifs.

How do you conquer those moments of self-doubt? I’m anxious to hear your thoughts.

20 seconds is an interesting concept. Sometimes I sit on an idea for days before taking action. Actually I sit on an idea before DECIDING to take action.
Then once the decision is made I can start planning and implementing.

But as far as the self-doubt issue, two things came to mind.

Prayer, which for me has changed in the last few years from asking God to open doors, to asking him to shut doors that I shouldn’t walk through…

And from my Dale Carnegie training, imagine what the worst could be… death… and then realize this situation is not that bad.

Thanks Scott for the feedback. Good advice.

I’ve learned it’s important to know when to say no, so I can stay focused on what’s important.

Plus many times, the worst thing that can happen is you get a no, which then creates an opportunity to understand how to improve the idea.

      • Scott Howard says:

Don, you are correct, except sometimes the best thing that can happen is a no IF you can find out why and then improve the idea. Those are excellent learning experiences to discover if it is a communication problem or something else.

But we are venturing off the path with all of these thoughts….

  2. true! After 45 years, what’s an occational crazy I can do it 20 seconds?
